Exceptions — Worked Over 14 Hours With No Exemption To Take
These days exceed the 14-hour on-duty window and the driver had already used (or could not use) the 16-hour short-haul exemption for the period. Each is a potential 14-hour-rule violation.

16-Hour Exemption Days — Qualifying / Annotated
Days between 14 and 16 hours where the driver still had the once-per-period short-haul exemption available. Annotated as the day the exemption was taken. Eligible on paper — confirm the §395.1(o) conditions below.

Paper Logs Required — Record Of Duty Status
Any day over the 14-hour window falls outside the §395.1(e) short-haul exception, so that day needs a record of duty status. Each log below is pre-drawn from the time card with a 15-minute pre-trip and 15-minute post-trip built in, and prints with fill-out instructions in English and Spanish.

Full Audit — All Duty Days By Driver

How the call is made. The 14-hour rule limits the on-duty window span — first clock-in to last clock-out, lunch included — not the hours actually clocked. A day over 14h is allowed only if the 16-hour short-haul exemption (49 CFR §395.1(o)) is available. That exemption may be used once per 7 consecutive days, with the count re-set by a 34-hour restart. A day over 16h can never be cured by the exemption and is always a violation.

Confirm before relying on a “qualifies” result. The exemption also requires the driver to start and return to the same work-reporting location, be released from duty there, and stay within the 150 air-mile short-haul radius. Per Colorado Drywall operations all drivers do this, so a time card is sufficient here — but the tool annotates eligibility, it does not certify legality.

Check every person who actually drives. Everyone left unchecked (office, shop, sales, warehouse) is dropped before the audit runs. Saved in this browser for this company.
